Some bawled their eyes out, some were stunned into silence and some even credited it for making them desperate for a child of their own.
The moment a baby boy was born live on television has drawn an incredible reaction from viewers, who are speaking of a huge wave of emotions as the newborn was brought into the world.
Elijah Bougasa made television history when he was born by caesarian section at Sydney’s Mater Hospital last night with Channel Seven cameras filming the entire procedure. The birth was broadcast live on Operation Live.
His mother Erine Bougasa, 31, had previously told of being “terrified” of her television debut but appeared calm throughout the procedure.
Viewers shared in the moment she was shown her baby for the first time and the cries of “yes” from her husband James as he learned it was a boy. Mr Bougasa mopped up the tears of the new mother-of-two as she was overcome with emotion at her son’s arrival.
The broadcast ended with a content Mrs Bougasa holding Elijah and cooing to her new son.
Social media users wrote how they felt privileged to have shared in such an intimate moment between the mother and baby and fascinated by a surgical procedure few have the chance to witness.
