Tonight’s episode is rather dull compared to the gripping events of last week.
There’s no mention of the affair and no update from Ziggy about whether she and Dean are over for good or how she’s processing his involvement in dead Ross’ murder.
But we do find solace in Roo and new Daddo Owen’s will they/won’t they saga.
Roo is still very hesitant about dating dead Evan’s long lost identical twin brother — understandably — but after a week or so of tiptoeing around, I want answers.
Roo is literally waiting at Owen’s van and asks him out for a drink at Salt because she’ll already be there “keeping Ryder company”.
I assume the line slipped out in a panicked moment.
So the drink is under way and they’re enjoying each other’s company when John sits down with them uninvited. The third wheel dampens the chemistry which was finally heating up but “John doesn’t always read the room”, and this is certainly the case.
“Owen went home and I was left with your ex-husband,” Roo says to bestie Maz as she regales the events of the evening.
But Roo is determined to catch up with Owen again…without John this time and they have cake and coffee on the very picturesque veranda and share a kiss.
Owen seems shocked by the kiss despite the handful of dates or non dates they’ve been on, but that’s men.
Now onto the Parata house and Nikau has moved his girlfriend in without telling his uncles and they’re not impressed.
The tensions should be high because Bella’s brother, Colby and the Paratas don’t get along given their history of Colby being deadest on nailing them for crimes they may or may not have done — which have been completely left out of the script — and Colby would hate for Bella to move in.
However the tension isn’t very apparent.
Maybe we’ve now hit the social distancing episodes, although there was a kiss…?
We’re expecting Colby to “come bashing down our door” but he must have been too busy in hair and makeup getting his tattoo fixed up to make a raging appearance, not even a phone call.
Nikau makes “his mum’s famous bacon and egg pie” to schmooze them over, but Ari isn’t buying into it.
The uncles pull Nikau aside and tell him Bella has to go home for the aforementioned reasons but he refuses.
“She’s staying so get out of it,” Nikau says.
Meanwhile Mac wants to hear Bella’s side of the story.
But she’s pretty tight lipped apart from saying Colby is off the rails — a fave line being thrown around at the moment.
The girls arrive home just as the Paratas are having it out and tensions peak at a disappointingly low level.
Bella barely reacts and Ari apologises and says she’s welcome any time, but “not forever”.
So she packs her bags and heads home and we await Colby’s antics.
This incident also prompts Mac to look for a new place to live, plus Tane made it very clear that “we’re not mates” and she’s practically ruining his life because he wants to be with her.
