Have you seen these gadgets? Cops calls for assistance in search for missing diver

The desperate search to find missing diver Matthew Phillips has been suspended, with West Australian police now urging locals to keep an eye out for the man’s equipment that could be washed ashore.

The 49-year-old was last seen in the Perth suburb of Sorrento about 10am on Monday, but his vehicle was later found at Grace Darling Park in Lancelin, north of the city.

A mass search for the experienced free diver involved the water police, police air wing, local officers, an Australian Maritime Safety Authority jet, the Department of Fisheries and volunteer marine vessels in the Lancelin area.

After a few days of searching, it was announced on Friday that WA Police had suspend the operation on Thursday evening.

Police are now asking the public to keep an eye out for any diving equipment that could be found in the water or along the shore in and around the Lancelin area.

“Of particular interest are any signs of the diving suit, diving bag, equipment and flippers (which is) Mr Phillips’ diving gear,” WA Police said in a statement on Friday.

Anyone who finds any of the man’s items is urged to record the exact time and location, take photos of the equipment in-situ and immediately contact police on 131 444.
