Great Southern conference a chance for region’s volunteers to upskill and network

The Great Southern Volunteer Conference will bring together volunteers from across the region next Saturday to network, upskill and learn from a range of experts on how to improve their clubs.

The conference will be held at the City of Albany administration building on June 25, with locals with an interest in volunteering able to attend in person or online.

It is hosted by the City, Albany and Regional Volunteer Service, and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

The packed program will include presentations from a variety of local community leaders and industry professionals, with volunteers from sporting clubs, community groups and volunteer organisations invited to attend.

Sessions will cover planning for the future, event management, risk management and assessment planning, marketing and promotion, mental health support for members and volunteers, attracting and retaining members, sponsorship and creating an inclusive club.

City community development co-ordinator Tammy Flett said volunteers were the core of many community groups and organisations across the Great Southern.

“The conference is a brilliant opportunity to increase the capacity of community groups and clubs, with so many topics covered all in the one place and so much knowledge available for attendees,” she said.

“No matter an individual’s current knowledge base, experience or ability; everyone will have learned something new by the end of the conference.”
