Germany to phase out coal production by 2038

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the nation will phase out all coal production by 2038. The German Coal Commission recommended all coal plants be shut down within two decades, including a recommendation to provide a $63 million aid package for workers impacted by the decision. The plan is part of Germany’s shift toward renewables, which make up for 40 per cent of the country’s economy.
