Fremantle Dockers punted from top-four after Jamie Elliot kicks after-the-siren goal for Collingwood Magpies

Jamie Elliot is clutch.

The Collingwood veteran has steered home one of footy’s all-time best match-winner, a remarkable drop-punt pushing off the fence after the siren.

The come-from-behind stunner sunk Essendon at an MCG epic, but has also booted Fremantle from the top-four, with the Pies’ barnstorming nine-game run of wins shooting them into premiership contention.

Leading by one-point, Bombers youngster Harrison Jones missed a set-shot from directly in front with just under a minute to play.

It allowed the Magpies to go coast-to-coast, splitting the Bombers open on the counter attack.

Collingwood youngster Trent Bianco found Elliot with pin-point accuracy at the end of a dashing run down the members’ wing, finding a tiny gap between two defenders to land a kick on his forward’s chest.

The siren blew on Elliot’s approach before his left-to-right drop punt spun the MCG into raptures.

Bombers players were left stunned as Magpies flocked to Elliot and celebrated with a jubilant Magpie army.

The incredible victory is Collingwood’s fifth in a row by less than two goals.

Ahead of their bumper Friday night clash with reigning premiers Melbourne, Fremantle have been bumped from the top-four for the first time since Round 4.

It means the Dockers will be forced to scrap for the prized double-chance through the final four rounds of the season, with Sydney’s win over Adelaide yesterday also putting them in contention.
