Forrestfield pursuit: Alleged car thief tasered in dramatic arrest

Police have arrested and tasered an alleged car thief in a dramatic takedown in Perth’s east this morning.

Officers fired a taser at the 24-year-old St James man near Tonkin Highway in Forrestfield at about 9.30am, after he allegedly led police on a five-minute pursuit before crashing into two cars.

Police allege the man stole a Subaru Impreza sedan from a Riverview Road home in East Victoria Park, either late on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

Officers first saw the sedan on Edinburgh Road in Forrestfield, when the driver allegedly failed to stop under lights and sirens.

The Impreza then collided with two vehicles near Tonkin Highway, with the driver taken to Royal Perth Hospital with minor injuries.

The occupants of the other cars were uninjured.

The man has been charged with stealing a car, reckless driving, escaping police pursuit, failing to comply with a direction to stop and driving on a suspended license.

He is due to appear in Midland Magistrates Court tomorrow.
