Former long-term Perth assistant Adam Forde named Sydney Kings head coach

Former long-term Wildcats assistant coach Adam Forde has been announced as the new head coach of the Sydney Kings.

Forde made the jump east prior to the 2019/2020 season for a lead assistant role under former Kings boss and now Houston Rockets assistant Will Weaver after nearly a decade at Perth.

Forde arrived at the Wildcats in 2011 as an unpaid video tech but was continually promoted during his eight-year tenure which included four championships under Rob Beveridge and Trevor Gleeson.

“I appreciate the responsibility that comes with leading a team like Sydney, especially considering the successful year we had last season, but I take comfort in knowing the strong support I have around me, and the confidence Paul Smith, Paul Kind, Chris Pongrass and Luc Longley have in me to do this job”, Forde said.

“We’ve been building up to something very special here in Sydney, so to continue on that trajectory upwards is something that is really important not only to me, but to everybody involved at the Club. I’m really looking forward to what we can achieve this season.”

Sydney were defeated 2-1 in a coronavirus impacted grand final series against Perth last season.

Forde also saw success while coaching in the State Basketball League bringing the East Perth Eagles (2014) their sole championship in the 31-year history of the men’s competition and was part of the Emerging Boomers coaching staff in 2019.

The NBL season is set to begin at the end of January.
