Formal complaints of sexual harassment filed against Colorado Sens. Baumgardner and Tate – The Denver Post

Formal complaints were filed this week alleging sexual harassment by state Sens. Randy Baumgardner and Jack Tate, according to a media report, while a legislator on Thursday announced he would try to remove state Rep. Steve Lebsock from office for accusations of unwanted sexual advances.

A former legislative aide alleged in a complaint filed Sunday that Baumgardner, a Republican from Hot Sulphur Springs, slapped and grabbed her buttocks about four times during the 2016 legislative session inside the Capitol building during work hours, public radio station KUNC reported.

“I trust in the process — allowing the facts to be thoroughly investigated and all sides to be heard — and ask that we not allow the media to be the final word on such matters,” Baumgardner said in a prepared statement.

On Wednesday, a former legislative intern filed a complaint alleging that Tate, a Republican from Centennial, regularly leered at her and made comments about what she was wearing, including a skirt, KUNC said in a report. The former intern told the station the incidents occurred during the 2017 legislative session, when she was 18. She also alleged that Tate had a habit of putting his hand on her shoulder and letting it linger there too long, the station added.

“I take this issue very seriously and am glad that a process is being put in place to clarify this situation,” Tate said in a prepared statement.
