A woman is lucky to have escaped injury after being run down by a police horse on a popular party strip in Perth.

Shocking mobile phone footage captured the nasty incident that resulted in the woman being thrown backwards onto the road by an advancing police horse.

A Western Australia Police spokesman confirmed the incident had prompted a review by the force.

He said the incident unfolded about 1.45am on Sunday morning when mounted section police officers were responding to a “violent assault” in the middle of James St, Northbridge.

“A woman was knocked to the ground when she stepped back into the path of the approaching mounted section rider and horse,” he said.
