Firefighter attacked at Hostel G hostel in Stirling Street

A firefighter has been attacked during an incident at a student hostel in Perth overnight.

Police were called to Hostel G in Stirling Street about 9.30pm, responding to reports of an intruder.

A hostel spokesperson said the male intruder caused minor damage in the hostel and set off a fire alarm. Occupants, including those from the adjoining Campus Hostel, were evacuated as a precaution.

Police said they found a man acting irrationally and tampering with a fire hydrant. He allegedly open the hydrant, causing water to flood the street and building.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services officers were called. When officers intervened, the man allegedly attacked a firefighter and another person.

Two people, including the accused, sustained minor injuries. Police inquiries are continuing.
