Fire at Weld County oil site lights up the night sky Friday, one worker injured

On December 22, 2017, at approximately 8:46 p.m., the Weld County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an oil site fire in the area of HWY 392 and Weld County Road 21, near Windsor.

A fire at an oil site on Friday night near Windsor injured a worker who was taken to a local hospital.

The fire broke out at about 8:45 p.m. at a facility near Colorado 392 and Weld County Road 21, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s office.

Further details on the worker’s injures were not released. Flames from the fire lit up the night sky and plumes of dark smoke rose into the air. Some area residents, on social media, reported hearing a loud boom and feeling their houses shake. Photos and videos of the incident were posted on social media.

Colorado 392 was shut down from Colorado 257 to Weld County Road 23, according to the Windsor Fire Department.

The cause of the fire, described as a “industrial accident,” is being investigated by Windsor Fire Department.
