A 21-year-old man has been jailed over a vicious street brawl in Mandurah in which the victims were attacked with bricks.
Travis Hugh Payne, from Falcon, joined a group of men involved in a fight outside a nightclub in Mandurah’s Smart Street Mall in April.
Security footage of the late-night fight shows the men throwing bricks at the 27-year-old victim before he is punched to the ground.
Payne had previously pleaded guilty to common assault for punching the victim and was today sentenced in Mandurah Magistrates Court to eight months in jail.
His lawyer said told the court the 21-year-old had only met the two brick throwers that night and weighed-in on the attack after seeing the fight.
In handing down the sentence, the Magistrate Anne Longden said Payne was an enthusiastic participant who had plenty of opportunity to retreat from the violence.
The court was also told Payne had been given a suspended sentence for a similar assault two years earlier.
The victim’s girlfriend was also hit with a brick when she tried to stop the attack and suffered a fractured skull and perforated ear drum.
The court was told Payne wasn’t responsible for those injuries.
Another man who threw a punch on the night was fined $1000 at a previous court appearance.
Two other men from Beaconsfield and Kelmscott have also pleaded guilty to charges relating to the attack and will be sentenced next year.
