Ross Squire Homes General Manager Steve Grehan has worked his way through the building industry, with career origins some years ago.
Starting out as an apprentice, Mr Grehan held previous roles as a tradesperson, in supervision, in construction management and in building management, before taking on his first general manager role. His last three years have been as General Manager at Ross Squire Homes − a builder which will celebrate its 40th birthday in 2021.
Speaking to New Homes, Mr Grehan said what he loved the most about his role at the company was the ability to provide quality service to customers in rural and remote areas.
“Not only providing good service, but to also be able to build a quality product. Ross Squire Homes has been in action for 40-odd years, so they have built up a reputation over time,” he said.
“Our systems and processes are very robust. One thing I enjoy is getting out, seeing our clientele in the country areas and meeting the people we are building a house for.”
Mr Grehan said the building industry was vastly different now than when he first started.
“Things have become far more immediate with new technology, and everybody is so accessible nowadays,” he said. “If somebody has a question, they can get online and they can get answers pretty quickly.
“Everybody has access to Google, so they come in far more informed than they used to be.”
When it comes to what sets Ross Squire Homes apart from other builders in Western Australia, Mr Grehan said it was the fact three different types of building processes were offered.
“We offer a kit home, we also offer homes that are built to lock up, so clients can then get in there, especially if they’re in a trade or know people in the building industry and are able to finish off the home exactly how they want, or we offer fully built products,” he said. “It’s pretty unique, not many builders out there offer those different avenues.”
Looking to the future, Mr Grehan said the company was looking to improve its two-storey designs.
“I can see us in the next few years having a good range of two-storey designed homes, which we’re able to build out in rural and remote areas as well,” he said.
“We do have a range at the moment but they certainly need to be updated and brought into line with the rest of our models, which have recently had a bit of a facelift.”
