Spotlight on Nikita Kucherov
The Lightning right winger entered Friday’s games with a NHL-leading 22 goals and 44 points. He has scored in each of his last three games. Kucherov, 24, was drafted in the second round (58th overall) in 2011 but is third in career scoring in his draft class with 278 points. Avalanche left wing Gabe Landeskog, the No. 2 overall pick in 2011, leads the class with 298 points, followed by Edmonton’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (287), who was picked No. 1.
Lightning: They defeated Arizona 4-1 on Thursday for their sixth consecutive victory, matching the third longest streak in franchise history. Kucherov, Brayden Point and Tyler Johnson each had a goal and an assist. Tampa Bay hasn’t lost since Nov. 29. “We’re feeling good about ourselves right now,” captain Steven Stamkos told reporters after Thursday’s game. The Bolts’ franchise record for consecutive wins is nine, set from Feb. 18 to March 5, 2016. … Forward Ryan Callahan suffered an upper-body injury Thursday and is out indefinitely. He likely will be replaced by J.T. Brown. … Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 32 saves for his fifth straight win Thursday. He leads the NHL with 21 victories.
Avalanche: The Avs practiced Friday and will have a morning skate at the Pepsi Center on Saturday. Rookie center Alex Kerfoot is questionable with a foot injury. He has missed the last two games since taking a shot off the foot in Monday’s 2-1 win at Pittsburgh. … Colorado has won three of its last four games after ending a four-game losing streak. … The Avs lost 5-2 at Tampa Bay on Dec. 7. … Colorado is 0-of-17 on the power play in its last five games. … Defenseman Mark Barberio is on a four-game points streak and rookie forward Tyson Jost has points in consecutive games for the first time in his career. … The Avalanche completes its three-game homestand Monday against Pittsburgh, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion.
