Spotlight on Harrison Barnes: The sixth-year forward has been terrific in his first two games against the Nuggets, totaling 22 points and 10 rebounds in a December win in Dallas and 17 points and six rebounds in a 105-102 loss less than two weeks ago. Though his scoring average and shooting percentages are down slightly this season, he entered Friday averaging career-bests in rebounding (6.8 per game) and assists (two per game).
Mavericks: They were 3-7 in January and held the second-worst record in the Western Conference entering Friday’s home game against Portland. … Rookie point guard Dennis Smith is averaging 14.7 points, 4.6 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. … The Mavericks entered Friday ranked 27th in the NBA in rebounding (40.6 per game) but with the fewest turnovers in the league (12.4 per game). Denver entered Friday as the fifth-best rebounding team in the NBA (45 per game) and 17th in the league turnovers forced (14.6 per game).
Nuggets: They’re riding two consecutive victories, including a 130-118 win over New York on Thursday in one of their best offensive performances of the season. … Nikola Jokic has notched a double-double in four of his last five games, totaling 18 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds in Thursday’s win over the Knicks. Denver is 14-4 when Jokic records a double-double. … The Nuggets have used 18 different starting lineups this season, including point guard Jamal Murray, shooting guard Gary Harris, small forward Will Barton, power forward Nikola Jokic and center Mason Plumlee the past two games.
