Get your mates down to the pub for a few frothies and some homegrown music this weekend courtesy of Esperance trio Grand Casual.
The three-piece outfit are heading north for a jam-packed weekend, headlining two gigs and bringing their bluesy rock flavour to Sunday’s Coolgardie Day celebrations.
Fresh off the southern leg of their tour — where they hit up Yallingup, Margaret River, Denmark and Hopetoun — they are ready to roll on to Boulder, Kambalda and Coolgardie.
Playing at 3B Bar in Boulder tonight and Kambalda Hotel tomorrow, frontman and event manager Kyron Smithson said they were looking forward to sharing their original tunes with the crowd.
“Both venues have been really accommodating,” he said.
I’m quite excited as there’s not a lot of places playing original music in Kal, so if these two gigs go well it might open it up for me to book other acts into Kal venues and for us to return ourselves.
Local indigenous hip-hop artist Miss Genius will open for them tonight. Smithson met her on their 2018 Goldfields tour.
“We met and had a bit of a chat — she’s a very good hip-hop artist,” he said.
“So we’re really looking forward to that, and she’ll be coming down to Esperance for another gig with us later in the year.”
Esperance acoustic act Campbell Garrett will open for them tomorrow, before also performing at Coolgardie Day, which will be headlined by local indigenous band Tapping Stickz.
You can catch Grand Casual at 7pm today at 3B Bar in Boulder, 8pm tomorrow at the Kambalda Hotel, and 10.10am at Coolgardie Day.
