England lost 52-47 to Australia in their first rematch since the Commonwealth Games final in April.
After a promising first quarter, which saw the Roses lead the world No 1 side by three goals, England failed to capitalise on their strong start in the second and third quarters, trailing by 41-34 after 45 minutes played.
Tracey Neville’s pep talk before the final quarter gave the Roses a boost and they came tantalizingly close to clawing their way back against the Diamonds, but it was not to be as with two minutes to go Australia brought their lead back up to five goals.
The loss marks Australia’s biggest victory against England in two years.
