Eleven Fremantle, West Coast players invited to Brownlow Medal rely, including 2019 winner Nat Fyfe

Just 11 players from Fremantle and West Coast have been invited to attend this year’s COVID-safe Brownlow Medal count on Sunday.

Last year’s winner, Nat Fyfe is one of five Dockers to secure an invite to the prestigious event, along with defender Luke Ryan, veteran David Mundy and mids Andrew Brayshaw and Adam Cerra.

For the Eagles, skipper Luke Shuey will be joined by ruckman Nic Naitanui, mids Andrew Gaff and Tim Kelly, defender Brad Sheppard and forward Liam Ryan.

The players will descend on Optus Stadium for the count, according to Fox Footy, with the votes themselves being read by Gil McLachlan in Queensland.

Other venues, including Metricon Stadium, the Gabba and Adelaide Oval will host players currently in those respective states, while Channel 7 studios in Melbourne and Sydney will host their events.

Under the new restrictions for the 2020 event, there will be no red carpet arrivals, but partners are welcome to attend – except for those in Melbourne.

“Each location will be set to ensure COVID Safe measures are in place,” the AFL memo to all 18 AFL clubs read.

“The winner’s presentation (will take) place in the location that the 2020 Brownlow Medallist/s is/are attending.”

For whoever wins through to the AFL Grand Final, those two teams will be in separate viewing rooms to “ensure the integrity of the bubble is maintained”.

West Coast is one of eight teams with six players invited.

Nine teams, including Fremantle, have five players on the guest list while North Melbourne is the only club with just four invited.
