Ed Sheeran has become a father for the first time after welcoming a daughter with wife Cherry Seaborn.
The Shape of You singer announced the arrival of Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran on Instagram today, saying the couple are “completely in love” with their new arrival.
“Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you,” he captioned the post.
“Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.“We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here.
“We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back.”
Rumours of Seaborn’s pregnancy first circulated last month, with a source telling The Sun the pair felt like lockdown was “a perfect excuse not to be seen out and about” as they kept their baby news secret.
“They’re very excited, but have kept things very low key,” the source said.
“Things are getting closer and the excitement has been building so they have started telling friends and family.
“They’re just making the last of the preparations at home…It’s a really happy time and their families are all totally delighted for them and cannot wait to meet the new arrival.”
Although Sheeran is one of the world’s biggest musicians, he’ll have plenty of time to spend at home with his new arrival, as he is currently on a temporary break from his work.
The crooner confirmed his hiatus on social media in December last year.
“The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world,” he wrote.
“I’ve been a bit non-stop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write and read.
“I’ll be off all social media until it’s time to come back.
“To my family and friends, see ya when I see ya, and to my fans, thank you for always being amazing. I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right, and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.”
