The Busselton-Dunsborough Dungbeetles played the first part of a home and away fixture against the Bunbury Barbarians last Saturday in Australind.
With the Barbarians recently going down in a close loss at the Perth districts grand final, the Dungbeetles knew the match would make for a good gage of their skills.
In the first half, the Dungbeetles defended their line ferociously and creating a challenge for the the bigger units in the Barbarians side.
An unlucky turn over caught the Dungbeetles in attacking formation resulted in a try out wide just before half time.
In the second half, the Barbarian’s larger bodies and multiple players off the bench turning over started to take its toll on the smaller Dungbeetles forward pack, who found it hard to win their own set piece and give the back line the front foot ball it needed to score.
The few chances they did have with space out wide weren’t utilised effectively, resulting in final score of 12-6 to the Barbarians.
The fixture this Saturday will see the sides clash again at Barnard Park, kicking off at 3pm, with the Dungebeetles hopeful for a home ground win.
