The Royals are set for a new addition after the palace revealed this afternoon that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is pregnant.
In a statement released on Kensington Palace’s Twitter feed the post read: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.’
The news coincides with the couple arriving in Sydney this morning ahead of their 16-day trip in Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.
It’s the couple’s first official visit to Australia since getting married in May, and will start with a visit to the Sydney Opera House tomorrow.
The huge trip will be packed with 76 engagements, with the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 taking centre stage.
Kensington Palace announced that the trip would coincide with the Invictus Games, which is being held in Sydney from October 20-27.
The destination for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first official trip as husband and wife mimics the prince’s parents first overseas tour, as they visited Australia in 1983, shortly after their own wedding.
A second statement from Kensington Palace added that their Royal Highnesses ‘have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding… and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.’
The news of the couple’s baby joy has already seen bookies open markets on the name of the new arrival.
Sportsbet has made Diana the early favourite if the pair were to have a girl, while Arthur appears to be the popular choice for a boy.
