Domino’s store shut down for disgusting hygiene and cockroach infestation

A Domino’s Pizza outlet has been forced to close after council inspections uncovered disgusting hygiene standards.

Issues reportedly first arose for the store in Sydney’s Chatswood when a customer discovered a cockroach baked into one of their pizzas.

On further inspections in March this year it was discovered the store was operating amid a full-scale cockroach infestation.

Hygiene standards in the kitchen had slumped so low the company’s head office was forced to step in and voluntarily shut the store.

All up, the venue was fined $1760, including for failing to take “all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests”.

Filth-encrusted benchtops and work areas also factored into a separate reprimand and fine for not maintaining ”all fixtures, fittings and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness”.

A spokesperson for Domino’s said the company agreed with the council’s determination that the store did not meet the standards required.

Last week, Domino’s took full possession of the store from the franchisee and immediately closed the business for “renovation works”.

This includes, “repairing, replacing and deep cleaning all equipment, and sanitising food preparation areas and utensils”.

“This store will not re-open until it has been fully repaired, deep cleaned, and awarded an updated food safety licence,” the spokesperson said.

“Food safety and quality is of the utmost importance to Domino’s and we apologise to local customers.

“We will work with the local council and an independent auditor from the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) to ensure the new store meets all council and Domino’s standards prior to reopening under new management.”
