Dolphins shock Ravens in NFL boilover

This time, Lamar Jackson’s NFL homecoming was anything but perfect.

And a Baltimore team that had grown accustomed to blowing out Miami had nowhere near enough answers to keep up with the Dolphins.

Jackson and the Ravens were thwarted all night, falling 22-10 to the Dolphins, who savoured a rare moment of celebration at home this season.

Baltimore were kept out of the end zone until the final minutes, went 11 possessions between scores and ended Thursday night with their lowest scoring total in a regular-season game since a 12-9 loss to Cleveland on October 7, 2018.

Their streak of 51 regular-season games with at least 14 points – the second-longest such streak in NFL history behind a 63-game run by New England from 2009 through 2013 – came to a crushing end.

“There were some plays we left on the field, some drives we left on the field, some mishaps,” Jackson said.

“The Dolphins played a great game.”

It started as a match-up of quarterbacks who grew up playing high school football in Palm Beach County, probably less than an hour’s drive north of Hard Rock Stadium – with the Dolphins’ Jacoby Brissett in for the hurt Tua Tagovailoa.

It ended with Tagovailoa coming off the bench to cap the victory with a one-yard sneak as Miami (3-7) closed out their second win in five days.

Tagovailoa – who couldn’t start because of a fractured finger on his throwing hand – threw for 158 yards in relief of Brissett, who passed for 156 yards before needing to depart in the third quarter with an injured right knee.

“Any win is good,” last year’s No.5 draft pick Tagovailoa, who has had to deal with recent trade speculation over his future at the Dolphins, said.

“No rumours, no external factors of noise had anything to do with what we did tonight.”

Jackson completed 26 of 43 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown for Baltimore (6-3) – who had dominated Miami in their previous three meetings by a combined score of 137-16.
