A man has been charged over a firey motorcycle crash earlier this month after police allegedly found drugs and unlawfully obtained property on him at the time of the crash.
Cannington police have charged the 39-year-old Dianella man who was seriously injured in the July 4 incident.
Police will allege he stole a red and silver Honda motorcycle from a home in Orelia on June 9.
It will be further alleged that just after 4am on July 4 police tried to stop the motorcycle on Leach Highway. The rider initially stopped, however, when the officers got out of their car it will be alleged the rider accelerated away, crossing onto the wrong side of the highway.
The officers decided not to chase the bike and a short time later it collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The car and motorcycle both caught fire.
The rider was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital. The female driver of the Jeep received minor injuries. The Dianella man will appear before the Perth Magistrate’s Court on August 4 charged with seven offences, including reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and possession of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply.
Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the crash, or either of the vehicles involved in the area prior to the collision.
