Detectives charge two men over big cannabis bust in Kalbarri

Two men have been charged after police raided properties in and around Kalbarri, seizing dozens of cannabis plants and thousands in cash.

Geraldton detectives say 65 cannabis plants and $20,000 cash were seized along with property used in the cultivation of the drug during multiple raids in Kalbarri and nearby Yallabatharra on Friday, February 25.

Local Kalbarri police helped detectives carry out the search warrants.

Two men from Kalbarri, aged 50 and 44, have been charged with cultivating cannabis with intent to sell and supply.

The 50-year-old is also charged with possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property and is due to face Geraldton Magistrates Court via summons on March 17.

The 44-year-old co-accused has also been charged with possessing drug paraphernalia and cannabis, with his court date scheduled for March 31 in Geraldton.

Detective Sen. Sgt Bruce McDonald, Geraldton detectives officer-in-charge, said he believed the raids would significantly reduce the sale of drugs in the Mid West district.

He added the operation was ongoing and police were conducting further investigations into drug trafficking and dealing in the district.

Anyone with information about drug trafficking is urged to call local police.
