University of Denver co-captain and 2014 Mountain Vista graduate Graham Smith was selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft on Friday morning at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Smith, the ninth Pioneer drafted in the past ten seasons, was taken 18th overall by Sporting Kansas City. He began his collegiate career at Oregon State before transferring to DU prior to his junior year.

The 6-foot-3, 186-pound defender/midfielder finished with 19 points on six goals and seven assists in 43 matches in his Pioneers career.

A lynchpin of the DU defense over the past couple seasons, Smith previously played for Real Colorado and at Mountain Vista under coach Theresa Echtermeyer.
