Dampier Taverners down Rec Club while top four set for finals

Dampier Taverners 2 proved too strong for the Rec Club, chasing down the total with five balls left to claim a six-wicket victory at Bulgarra Oval.

The round seven clash of the West Pilbara Cricket Association T20 competition on March 11 saw Rec Club bat first, making a solid start to their innings until openers Bradley Beier (3) and Matt Michael (28) were dismissed leaving the batting side at 2/35.

Taverners jumped on the breakthrough, stemming the run rate and taking seven wickets for 41 runs to leave Rec Club in dire straits at 9/81.

A late cameo from Richard Anderson and Liam O’Neill saw the 10th wicket partnership put on 20 runs before Anderson fell to leave Rec Club all out for 111.

Jack Radley and Jedd Nazzari were the standout bowlers with three wickets each.

In reply, Dampiers’ Paul Rowe got off to a flying start with 41 runs before retiring, leaving Leroy McCawley (21) and Ryan Trewin (16 not out) to cruise to the total, with the side finishing on 4/113 in the final over.

Brett Cobb was the top bowler for Rec Club with 2/20 off three overs while Anderson and Brendan Kuiper chipped in with a wicket each.

In the other games, Karratha Kats (5/107) downed Nickol Hawks by five wickets (6/105), with Dale Walkingshaw scoring the winning runs in the 19th over and finishing not out on 36.

Wickham put on a bowling clinic against Pegs Creek 2, dismissing the side for 16 and cruising to a 10-wicket victory when they finished on 0/17.

Table-toppers Pegs Creek 1 (8/133) claimed a six-wicket victory over Dampier Tarverners 1 (4/134) on the back of a massive effort from Lachlan Seabrook, who hit 92 off 43 deliveries.

The final clash of the round saw Bayton Lions (4/177) dismiss Dampier Taverners 1 for 121 runs to claim a 56-run victory.

The competitions semifinals will take place on March 18 when Pegs Creek 1 and Dampier Taverners 1 face off while Kats will take on Nickol Hawks.
