COVID in WA: West Aussie Ena Billings among Australia’s oldest virus survivors, preparing for 106th birthday

Just days shy of her 106th birthday, Ena Billings is possibly West Australia’s — and perhaps even the country’s — oldest COVID-19 survivor.

Ena, who celebrates her remarkable birthday on Wednesday, contracted the potentially deadly virus during the height of WA’s worst COVID wave in late May. She has only just recently recovered.

It comes as WA on Sunday recorded its lowest number of COVID cases in almost a week, with 4900 new cases, down from 6158 on Saturday.

Two deaths dating from June 3 were reported — women in their 60s and 80s.

Ena’s daughter-in-law, Mary Billings was initially terrified of what would happen when Ena returned a positive test result.

“When they told me I thought that would probably be the end of her,” Mary told The West Australian.
