Coronavirus: Two new cases announced in WA Saturday, cluster grows to 16

Two new locally-acquired COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed in WA overnight, taking the backpacker outbreak to 16 and raising the prospect restrictions in Perth and Peel may linger beyond Tuesday.

Premier Mark McGowan revealed the new infections in an online post this morning.

“The new local cases are close contacts of a recent case and are in hotel quarantine,” Mr McGowan said.

“Contact tracers commenced interviewing these cases overnight. Additional exposure sites will be released as they come to hand.”

The number of exposure sites linked to the outbreak now stands at around 100 and stretches across Perth and all the way down to Preston Beach in Bunbury – including an Australind train service on December 28.
