Copper Search appoints new CEO to steer SA exploration

Perth-based Copper Search has appointed Duncan Chessell as Chief Executive Officer. The new CEO will hold the tiller as the company combs through the highly South Australia’s prospective Gawler Craton.

Chessell is a qualified geologist who is currently the managing director of the ASX-listed gold and battery metals explorer Resolution Minerals.

Copper Search says Chessell was responsible for co-founding and listing Resolution – formerly Northern Cobalt – in 2017 and has acted in a variety of executive and board roles with ASX-listed and unlisted public companies along with non-for-profit-groups.

The new CEO is due to take a hold of the reins in early May 2022 and will be based in Adelaide. Current managing director Peter McIntyre will take on a non-executive director’s role.

We are pleased to have secured Duncan’s services as CEO and look forward to him driving the exploration program on the Company’s tenements in South Australia’s Gawler Craton.

With the change in leadership, we need to acknowledge Peter’s contribution in expertly steering the Company through its ASX listing last year and the commencement of drilling shortly thereafter.

Drill efforts in the final quarter of 2021 at the Gawler Craton targeted the Douglas Creek prospect of the Ruby Hill project and intersected basement rocks at 370 metres downhole. Based upon the intense alteration and deformation observed, Copper Search concluded the project area is fertile for iron oxide copper gold deposits.

Given the number of targets now identified within Ruby Hill the explorer has solicited an infill gravity survey on a 400m grid in order to beef up the company’s data. The results from the survey will be used to prioritise targets ahead of the next passing of the rig.

Copper Search’s ambitious portfolio sits shoulder to shoulder with globally significant operations including Oz Minerals and BHP with the respective Prominent Hill and Olympic Dam deposits. Whilst it may seem fanciful to think Copper Search will emulate the success of its neighbours, the company has placed itself at the right address to certainly give it a red hot crack.
