DALLAS AT COLORADO, 6 p.m. Sunday, ALT, 950 AM
Spotlight on Alexander Radulov
The Russian forward is back for his second NHL season, first with the Stars, after playing eight years in the Kontinental Hockey League following his NHL three-year, entry-level contract expired in 2008. Radulov, 31, signed his largest NHL contract on July 3 with Dallas, a front-loaded, five-year, $31.25 million deal that pays him $8 million this season and next. He played on a one-year, $5.75 million contract last season with Montreal, which out-recruited a handful of NHL teams, including the Avalanche, for his services. Radulov is playing right wing on the Stars’ stacked first line, alongside center Tyler Sequin and left wing Jamie Benn.
Stars: They completed a home-and-home set with the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night in Dallas. The Stars beat the host Blackhawks 4-3 in overtime Thursday. Entering Saturday’s game, Dallas had won three straight since losing 3-0 at Colorado on Nov. 22 … Defenseman Marc Methot (knee) is out for 4-6 weeks and center Martin Hanzal (hamstring) is week-to-week. … Goalie Kari Lehtonen is scheduled to start against the Avs after he backed-up Ben Bishop against Chicago on Saturday.
Avalanche: Captain Gabe Landeskog will serve the third game of his four-game suspension for his cross check to the head of Calgary’s Matthew Tkachuk on Nov. 25. Three players have been used to replace Landeskog as the first-line left-winger: Sven Andrighetto, Nail Yakupov and most recently J.T. Compher in the third period of Friday’s 2-1 loss to the visiting New Jersey Devils. Colin Wilson, who has missed the last two games with an undisclosed injury, is a candidate to play that role with center Nathan MacKinnon and right-winger Mikko Rantanen on Sunday. If Wilson plays, Gabriel Bourque figures to be the odd-man out of the 12-man forward corps. Landeskog is eligible to return to the lineup Thursday at Tampa Bay, when Colorado begins a three-game Eastern Conference road trip. … Defenseman Patrik Nemeth practiced in a non-contact jersey Saturday, his second consecutive day with the team. Nemeth has missed the last 10 games with a back injury and is still about a week away from returning to the lineup. … Colorado is 1-2 and has scored just five goals in its five-game homestand that concludes Tuesday against Buffalo.
