Mark Grove will be unable to serve coffee from his new Kalbarri food van.
At Northampton Shire’s last council meeting, Cr Peter Stewart and Cr Terry Carson moved and seconded a motion to refuse his request.
“The location is within 300m of a business that sells products of a similar nature, and therefore does not align with council’s Policies for Trading in Public Places or Itinerant Food Vendors,” Council minutes say.
At the same time, the council voted to allow Mr Grove to trade for an additional two hours. He can now keep the business open from 7am to 9pm.
Councillors Roslyn Suckling, Sandy Stock-Standen and Stewart Smith voted against the motion.
Cr Shane Krakouer declared a financial interest and did not vote.
Mr Grove intends to sell Indonesian-style food, seafood and soft drinks near Kalbarri’s land-backed wharf starting in March.
The council granted him development approval last November.
