Close results prove Broome Basketball Association trophy still anyone’s for the taking

A number of close games in round seven of the Broome Basketball Association season have again proved the title is anyone’s, with undefeated MP Boyz almost falling to third-place Skywalkers.

Playing under the Wednesday night Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre lights, the Mp Boyz shot to an early lead, almost doubling their opponents’ score in the first quarter to lead 13-7.

However, the second quarter was the rise of the Skywalkers, who smashed home 14 points while holding the MP Boyz to just eight to see things almost all square at half-time, 22-21.

The third quarter was fairly even, with both teams scoring a number of outside baskets to push scores out to 34-30 to the MP Boyz heading into the final period.

The MP Boyz have been clutch all season and proved why they’re top of the league once again, rushing out to an early lead which proved insurmountable for the Skywalkers, despite best efforts from Ezekiel McKenzie and Ryan Phillips who kept dropping threes.

Second-placed Kings faced sixth-placed Roey Misfits, with the Kings coming out victorious.

Coming off the back of their first loss of the season — at the hands of the MP Boyz in round six — the Kings seemed eager to prove their worth, smashing the Misfits 58-43 to re-establish their winning ways.

Fourth-placed Tigers faced fifth-placed Gantheaume Pointers in a tie which would decide who sat in the top-half of the table.

Both teams struggled to put points on the board in the low scoring game, with Tigers eventually coming out on top 32-24.

Now at the half-way point in the season, fixtures are reversed, meaning teams will play the same opponents in round eight.
