climate in sharp focus | The West Australian

The City of Busselton accepted a petition from Dunsborough photographer Christian Fletcher last week, calling on the council to join other WA local governments by declaring a climate emergency.

Forty Western Australian local governments have signed up to the WA Local Government Association’s climate change declaration including the Augusta-Margaret River Shire.

City of Busselton councillors will debate the petition, which states climate change threatens society, with human activity the dominant cause, on February 26.

The Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup Chamber of Commerce and Industries supported the petition.

DYCCI executive Emma Morgan said renewable energy projects, such as Plico Energy, needed to be highlighted.

Cr Paul Carter said he was sceptical of the climate narrative but he believed the declaration was a good thing to do.
