Cleo Smith discovered: Police say four-year-old ‘physically OK’ after ordeal

Against enormous odds, Cleo Smith is physically unharmed, police have confirmed.

Det. Sgt. Cameron Blaine confirmed the four-year-old had been given the all clear from doctors at the Carnarvon Hospital.

“She is physically OK. That was evident from the start,” he said.

“Taking her to the hospital was assurance of that from people who know what they are doing.”

Det. Sgt. Blaine, who was one of the four police officers who bashed down the door of the Carnarvon home where Cleo was found at 1am on Wednesday, described the four-year-old as a “very sweet, energetic girl” who had little fear of police officers.

“Having seen her a couple times this morning, she is a little Energiser bunny,” Det. Sgt Blaine said.

“How she has that much energy, I wish I did, I am about ready to go to sleep.

“Very sweet, energetic girl. Very trusting and very open with us.”

Detective Supt. Rod Wilde said seeing Cleo physically unharmed was “amazing”.

“It was very emotional. To see that, it’s something we hoped for, but we obviously had real concerns for Cleo’s welfare and as time passed by they grew worse. To see (Cleo in good health), it was amazing,” he said.

Police have released an image of the beaming little girl in her hospital bed, holding an iceblock and waving to the camera.

In the photograph, she appears physically uninjured.

Cleo was found by police at a home in Carnarvon at 1am on Wednesday, 18 days after she went missing from her family’s tent at the Quobba Blowholes.

A 36-year-old man is in custody and is being questioned by police.
