You may think you’ve seen good looking tractors before, but one of the new City of Melville units is a legitimate Dardy Sing…. at least that’s what it’s called anyway.
The WA local government has found out the hard way what happens when you open up a naming competition on the internet after putting the call out for help naming its three new tractors.
After asking for submissions, then picking the winner based on public ‘likes’, they’ve ended up being serviced by Dardy Sing, Roe 8 and Wave Park the tractors.
Dardy Sing, submitted by Moorditj Mick, attracted more than 215 likes. Wave Park attracted 174 likes and Roe 8 had 103.
Some of the suggestions that missed out were Cheese the Chihuahua, Tractory McTractorface and Fired Up Frank.
The names were printed onto the tractors and unveiled this week and the announcement has since been widely circulated on social media.
While probably not the names they were looking for given the City’s problems with the proposed Alfred Cove wave park and the long-running Roe 8 saga, they decided to accept the will of the public and honour the winning entries.
It’s the opposite approach to the one taken by the Natural Environment Research Council in 2016 when a competition to name their new research vessel came back with the RSS Boaty McBoatface.
The organisation decided to reject the public’s decision and name it after Sir David Attenborough instead.
Oh, and in case you’re not familiar with the term, Urban Dictionary describes dardy sing as a term used to describe a person who is extremely attractive.
