Christian Ranapia Aranui remanded after bizarre outburst at McDonalds

A Rockingham man has appeared in court after a bizarre incident at a local McDonald’s in the early hours of the morning.

Christian Ranapia Aranui, 26, appeared in custody before Rockingham Magistrates Court last Friday facing charges of disorderly behaviour, failure to comply, obstructing public officers and possession of a prohibited drug.

He was arrested at a Cooloongup McDonald’s in the early hours of May 20 after workers reported him behaving ‘strangely’.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Jessica Anderson said in court Aranui was sitting on the floor in front of the McDonald’s and behaving strangely when staff phoned police for assistance to have him removed.

When police arrived, they questioned Aranui, who they say became extremely hostile, yelling out “I don’t have to listen to you c****”.

The two officers then say they had to forcibly remove Aranui and put him in the back of the police car, where he refused to let the door close by putting his foot outside.

He was taken to Perth Watch House overnight.

He has remanded to July 11 to give Aranui time to re-engage with a suspended conditional order.

Magistrate Vivien Edwards said this would give Aranui an opportunity to demonstrate that he could comply with an order.
