Child dies, more injured after car rollover north of Collie

A baby has died in Collie District Hospital after the car she was a passenger in rolled over north of the mining town this morning.

The crash occurred about 15km north of Collie on the Collie-Tallanalla Road in the Harris River State Forest and was reported to emergency services at 10.46am.

It is understood the car was towing a caravan at the time it rolled and that because of the severity of their injuries the child was driven to hospital before paramedics arrived at the scene.

Police issued a statement this afternoon, confirming the tragedy.

“A nine month old girl who was a passenger in the vehicle received critical injuries and was conveyed by ambulance to Collie Hospital where she died a short time later,” a spokeswoman said.

“The driver and an adult passenger received minor injuries.”

Further south a four-year-old boy has received serious head injuries after he was hit by a car near Albany.

Police say the boy was on a beach in Green Range when a four-wheel-drive reversed over him just before 11am.

The boy was taken by St John Ambulance to Albany Hospital and will be flown by Royal Flying Doctors Service to Perth Children’s Hospital today for further treatment.
