A man has been charged with interfering with a corpse, after a body was found following a grassfire in southwest Sydney.

Emergency services were called to a fire on a rural property in Carnes Hill about midday on Monday.

The blaze was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW officers, before the body was found near a home on the property.

The body has not been formally identified, NSW Police said in a statement on Tuesday.

A 47-year-old man was arrested a short time later.

He was charged with improperly interfering with corpse, breaking and entering with intention to commit a serious indictable offence, and remaining in a building with the intention to commit a serious indictable offence.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Liverpool Local Court on Tuesday.
