Champion trainer Chris Waller has earmarked the Sydney Cup (3200m) as the main autumn aim for WA-owned Group 1 winner Come Play With Me.
In his first campaign with Sydney’s leading horseman, Come Play With Me gave the Durrant family one of their biggest thrills when he won The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick last October.
Adam Durrant, pictured, prepared the Blackfriars gelding, bred by Durrant’s father Geoff and owned by his mother Vicki, to 12 wins in WA before he was transferred.
The $2 million Group 1 Sydney Cup is run at Randwick in April.
“He’s going to trial in a couple of weeks,” Adam Durrant said.
“Chris has got four runs planned for him leading up to the Sydney Cup. That’s the main race for him.
“He spelled over there and Chris is happy with him.”
Come Play With Me’s victory in The Metropolitan boosted his total earnings to a whopping $1.53 million.
Meanwhile, Adam Durrant has planned a quick return to the races for his boom sprinter This’ll Testya.
The Testa Rossa mare captured national attention with outstanding wins at her first two starts before she was a beaten $1.30 favourite when fifth to Carocapo at Ascot on December 28.
“She’s coming back into work next week,” Durrant said.
“We’ve got a 66-plus 1000 on February 22 marked in for her.
“She had a rough week getting scratched after the float mishap and then backed up and sitting her wasn’t her cup of tea.
“She needed a break and I needed a break. We thought we’d give her three-to-four weeks off and she’s being kept active on the walker.”
