Champion Fillies Stakes winner Searchin’ Roc’s set for Marjorie Charleson Classic at Ascot next month

A bigger and stronger Searchin’ Roc’s is on target for a return to racing in the $100,000 Marjorie Charleson Classic (1200m) at Ascot next month.

The classy filly carried her exceptional Belmont Park winter form through to the Ascot carnival with victories in the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) and Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m).

She also ran second to Buzzoom in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) and was spelled after running seventh to Regal Power in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

The Marjorie Charleson on Good Friday will be Awesome Rock’s launching pad for her upcoming campaign.

“She’ll go to the Marjorie Charleson and then there’s a couple more races for her after,” trainer David Harrison said.

“Hopefully she’s up to them.

“She’s just had a couple of little gallops. She’s very big and strong and she’s put on a heap of muscle.”

The Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m) on April 30 and the Raconteur Stakes (1400m) and Belmont Guineas (1600m) in June are other potential aims for Searchin’ Roc’s.

Harrison’s Karrakatta Plate (1200m) hopefuls, Devine Belief and Sunny Honey, will tackle the Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) and Perth Stakes (1100m) respectively on Saturday week.

Devine Belief is prominent in Karrakatta markets after winning her two trials, while Sunny Honey was an Ascot winner on debut in January.

“Devine Belief has to race against Simon Miller’s filly (Amelia’s Jewel) and I don’t think anything is as good as her,” Harrison said.

Meanwhile, star WA sprinter Showmanship returned from injury with a Colac trial win for jockey Damian Lane on Tuesday.

The winner of seven of eight starts hasn’t raced since injuring a tendon in the spring of 2020. He will trial again before owner Bob Peters and trainer Danny O’Brien decide on his first-up assignment.
