Celebrating the hallmarks of home

Seemingly more than the sum of its many impressive components, Villa Casa – the new custom display at Salter Point by Averna Homes – is a cohesive build designed to feel like home.

Taking the very best of Averna’s previous displays, which are all located side-by-side on Morrison Street in Como, Villa Casa marks the dawn of a new era for the builder, drawing lessons from the past to embrace its river-facing locale.

“When I sat down to design this home I really looked back at all the previous homes we’ve designed over the years,” Averna General Manager Paul Spatara told New Homes.

“I gave a lot of thought to the most successful key elements from across our builds, the ones which have been most successful and the ones which made them feel like home from the moment you stepped through the door.”

The result is a home unique on its street and compared with its predecessors, but one which also showcases a number of features which have become synonymous with the custom builder.

These include a distinctive frontage, with extensive window placement showing the street and river beyond to those inside, and the soaring void with pendant lighting to those who pass by.

Built on a wide block, Villa Casa’s frontage is a geometric showcase which blends sharp edges with curvature, a signature that flows through the home.

Also of note is the use of natural materials – stonework in particular makes its first appearance in a garden wall hosting the home’s letterbox, tying in with a feature wall which connects inside to the entry void and contrasts with the natural timber accents found throughout.

“We love our natural stone, it just has so much character to it,” Mr Spatara said.

“The combination of the stone and the timber throughout really adds a warmth to the house.”

Stepping through the front door is where Villa Casa really starts to come into its own.

“As soon as you come into the home, there’s an instant wow factor,” Mr Spatara said.

“You’re greeted by that huge void which extends itself over the sitting room upstairs – it has instant impact.

“The home also offers transparency to the rear – from the moment you walk in you can see right the way through to the back of the build. That really invites you in, and the home starts to separate off from there.”

Fundamentally a family home designed to suit the vibe of the Salter Point area, Villa Casa’s main living spaces are located on the ground floor. At the rear is a spacious living/kitchen/dining/alfresco area, a free-form space where the curvature theme is continued in timber boutique cabinetry.

The curves don’t stop there – they recur throughout the lighting, mirrors, curtains and decor to both levels – a softening feature in a sizeable build.

The alfresco is essentially an additional room of the house complete with an outdoor kitchen. Accessible via sliding stacker doors which seamlessly integrate it into the space, the home offers views from this area to a beautifully simplistic outdoor pool set against a concrete wall with a feature outdoor shower.

A separate home theatre is the ideal space to escape as a family unit or solo, and sits off the entry.

Also on the ground floor is an opulent guest suite – designed to incorporate luxe trimmings with extended family and friends in mind, according to Mr Spatara.

“The guest suite actually has its own access separate of the rest of the home,” he said.

“That way, if you were to have a guest or a family member staying or living with you, they can come in and out of the home without having to go through the front door.”

The upstairs plays host to the main bedroom zone, with the master to the front making the most of Swan River views courtesy of a sprawling balcony, and offering a great deal of separation from the minor bedrooms to the rear.

The ensuite to the master is reminiscent of a hotel suite, with expansive mirrors, his and her showers and basins and a freestanding bathtub in which to soak away daily stresses.

The minor bedrooms are impressive in their own right, with ample space for occupants and consideration made for those who need to study.

Villa Casa is located at 56 Sulman Avenue, Salter Point and is open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4pm.
