Great Britain will be seeded in next year’s Davis Cup after Cameron Norrie defeated Sanjar Fayziev to secure a 3-1 victory in the play-off.
Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot paired up for victory on Saturday to hand Great Britain a 2-1 lead and Norrie produced a ruthless performance against Fayziev to seal the best-of-five tie in Glasgow.
Norrie squandered a match point in a shock five-set defeat to world No 434 Jurabek Karimov on Friday but this time eased to a dominant 6-2 6-2 6-0 against Fayziev, a late replacement for Uzbekistan’s No 1 Denis Istomin.
The British No 2 was expected to face Istomin, who lost in a gruelling five-setter against Dan Evans on Friday and then played in the doubles 24 hours later.
Norrie, world No 70, recovered from being broken in the first game of the match to ease through the first set against Fayziev, who had lost all six of his previous singles rubbers in the competition.
The 23-year-old, who reached the US Open second round last month, maintained his control on proceedings to demonstrate his shot-making as two breaks secured a two-set lead.
Norrie, who recorded a stunning comeback victory from two sets down against Roberto Bautista Agut on his debut in February, broke two further times early in the third set to near victory.
Fayziev was unable to trouble Norrie in the closing stages as a run of 11 games from the final 12 games saw Norrie earn his first home victory in the competition.
