Calling all yellow and blue cars to Classic Cars and Coffee fundraiser

All yellow and blue cars are being asked to show their true colours on April 3 in solidarity with Ukraine at this month’s Classic Cars and Coffee meet at the University of WA.

Members of the Ukrainian community will attend in traditional dress to collect donations, which will go to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal — a collaboration between the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, Rotary Australia World Community Service and Caritas Ukraine — to provide humanitarian aid to civilians and veterans injured and displaced through war.

The appeal has so far raised more than $2.3 million and hopes to reach $5 million over the next three months.

Perth Ukrainian community member Lesa Morgan said Ukrainian displaced persons were welcomed here in the 1950s — and Australia was doing it again in 2022 to help as she thanked Classic Cars and Coffee for its support.

Classic Cars and Coffee is a charity event held each month at UWA, with part of the entry fees going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. It’s regarded as the biggest classic car casual meeting, with close to 1000 cars and 3000 people attending special events in the past.

Organiser Justin Walker said the variety of cars on show, including some of Perth’s rarest, was considered to be one of the best in the Southern Hemisphere.

“Our attendees are bound by many things, but a few stand out — a love for cars and motorbikes is the most obvious but, more importantly, a passion for our community rises above all, which has enabled us to raise well over a hundred thousand dollars for PCFA since our inception,” Mr Walker said.

“It is this goodwill that we hope to further tap into as we dedicate our April 3 event to the Ukrainian people.”

The meet is from 8.30am-10.30am at carpark 3, Hackett Drive, Crawley. Entry is $10 per car.
