In the first teaser trailer for the animated flick dropped Thursday and will likely appeal to not just the kids but mum and dad and fans of Toy Story alike.
The action packed 90 second clip, set to David Bowie’s Starman, sees Buzz rocketing into space at warp speed towards the sun before showing glimpses of the adventures the sometimes overzealous character gets himself into.
Audiences also get the first look at Buzz without his iconic helmet, showing off a full head of hair.
It also introduced another yet to be named female Space Ranger.
“We are entering a new phase of Disney where in the future everything feel real and unreal the same time and Disney took emotions to next level” one YouTube user commented.
“This trailer was absolutely perfect. Enough to get you hooked without telling you full story.”
While some fans were confused that Allen did not return for the iconic role, the film will tell the story around the “real” and younger Buzz Lightyear that went on to inspire the toy we’ve followed in the Toy Story franchise.
“The film is based off the story of the guy the toy (Buzz) is based off so that’s why he’s not voiced by Tim Allen either bc they’re supposed to be different people,” one fan explained on Twitter.
Evans himself has taken to Twitter to share his excitement, sharing a quote from a previous interview saying it was a “dream come true,” and he “pinches himself” every day for being part of the Pixar family.
“Animated movie were an enormous part of my childhood,” he wrote. They were my escape. My adventures. My dreams. They were my first window into the magic of storytelling and performing. To @pixar and @AngusMacLane ‘Thank you’ doesn’t even come close.”
Lightyear is slated for release in June 2022.
