New research has revealed Busselton as the suburb with the State’s lowest rental vacancies.
The figures, commissioned by RentRabbit.com.au, found that of the top 20 rental markets in Western Australia desperate for more stock, Busselton took the top spot with five other South West suburbs also on the list.
Statistics show Busselton’s vacancy rate to be 0.6 per cent, with rents on average more than half of households’ weekly income.
Also on the list was West Busselton at number two, Carey Park fourth, Eaton eighth, Collie 11th and Australind rounding out the top 15.
RentRabbit.com.au co-founder Ben Pretty said the rental crisis was one of the biggest issues facing Western Australia right now.
“There are many suburbs across Western Australia where vacancy rates are very low and tenants are struggling to find somewhere to live,” he said.
“For affluent tenants in more privileged suburbs, they at least have more options in terms of where they can live, especially as many of them are knowledge workers who can work remotely.
“But for the many tenants who have low household incomes and who live in socio-economically disadvantaged areas, they’re really struggling right now and have very few options.”
In the past 12 months, Busselton’s overall vacancy rate decreased 1.9 per cent while West Busselton was deemed to have no vacancies at all, meaning available properties are being filled in less than 21 days of being listed for rent.
Remaining suburbs on the list were mostly from Perth, with 11 of the total 20, with one each from the Wheatbelt, Kimberley and Great Southern also making the cut.
