A new Bunnings store is set to open its doors in Northam next year after local councillors backed the plan.
The Shire of Northam has issued an approval for the development of a Bunnings smaller format store, which will be built at a former Mitre10 site on Peel Terrace.
The issuing of the development approval is considered to be a significant step towards Bunnings re-establishing itself in Northam, where it is expected to generate up to 40 team member jobs.
Shire of Northam President Chris Antonio said it was critical that developments such as these were supported, and able to move forward in the context of the health and economic challenges we are currently all facing.
“The Shire of Northam is committed to facilitating as much development in Northam as possible.
“Quite simply it will be critical to our economic recovery and with this in mind we are doing everything in our power to ensure we facilitate development”.
Bunnings regional operations manager Hayley Coulson said she was pleased the development application had been approved and was looking forward to being part of the Northam community.
“We look forward to providing the Northam community with a wide range of home improvement products, backed by great service,” she added.
Redevelopment of the site is expected to commence in the coming months, with store expected to open its doors in the second half of 2020.
Meanwhile, staff at Bunnings’ Whitfords Warehouse store are getting ready for the store’s final day of trading on August 30.
This will give the team time to ensure the store is packed down and ready to exit when the lease expires in October.
“The Whitfords Warehouse is one of our older stores and we’ve made the decision to service customers from our surrounding stores, rather than commit to a further lease term,” Bunnings Regional Operations Manager Hayley Coulson said in May.
“All of the current Whitfords team members will transfer to alternative stores and our focus is on working with them and supporting them throughout this transition.
“Bunnings Whitfords team has done a great job serving local customers and the local community for more than 20 years.”
