Are you 18 to 76, healthy and weigh over 50kg? The call has been put out to you to donate blood.
Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Bunbury is in need of 115 extra donors in the next two weeks to prevent a potential shortage in blood and plasma stocks.
First time donor Stephanie Tutt-Steer said she was inspired to donate after seeing posts online pleading for more blood.
“Obviously it’s been hard with COVID-19, but now things are looking a bit better over here I thought now is my opportunity,” she said.
Ms Tutt-Steer encouraged people thinking about donating to not be afraid.
Think about the good you’re doing for other people and just put yourself out there.
Centre manager Sue McKenzie said the need for blood products never stopped and welcomed donations of plasma.
“It’s been such a strange year that’s been very disruptive throughout the nation on a number of levels, so obviously that’s impacted our inventory,” she said.
It’s so easy to do. Sometimes people aren’t sure if they’re eligible, but it’s important to remember that most people are.
“It’s the knowledge of knowing that you’re doing something so valuable for someone who desperately needs that blood product and you’re giving someone life. Every blood donation can help save three lives and that’s huge.”
