Bulls’ finals chargeis gathering steam

The Broome Bulls have begun a late fight for a spot in the finals after defeating the Saints 12.6 (78) to 8.5 (53) at Father McMahon Oval last Friday.

The Bulls were looking to score early in this do or die match.

Despite building an early lead, the undermanned Saints were able to surprise the Bulls by levelling the scores halfway through the opening quarter.

That did not phase the Bulls, however, as they continued to build to lead by four goals at quarter-time.

Bouncing back from the early setback, the Saints were able to rally to stay in contention with the Bulls.

Despite the Bulls attempting to put the pressure on Saints, they were kept to just two behinds while the Saints narrowed the margin to just one point at half-time.

After the main break, the match continued to be a fairly even contest with both teams hungry for the win.

However, the Bulls began to break away late in the third quarter to keep the Saints to just one behind and they led by 19 points at three-quarter-time.

Although the midfield contest was still pretty even, Leigh Hislop brought the Bulls to another level with a four-goal surge in the final quarter. Despite efforts from the Saints, the Bulls were just too strong in the final term, taking home the win by 25 points.

The Bulls will have a challenge to secure a spot in the finals when they go up against top side Cable Beach at Father McMahon Oval on Friday while the Saints will cap off their home-and-away season against the Bidyadanga Emus on Saturday.
